ČEZ Distribuce a.s.: ERP system and data warehouse (BW) cleanup and archiving

We helped ČEZ Distribuce, a.s. reduce IT infrastructure operating costs, speed up user workflows, and prepare key systems for further development and potential migration to SAP S/4HANA.

The system cleanup project at ČEZ Distribuce focused on SAP ERP and SAP BW systems, which had been created by separating from the original shared system of the ČEZ Group. As a result, they contained a significant amount of irrelevant data and unused objects.

The project aimed to design and implement, in collaboration with the customer’s ICT specialists, the removal of this obsolete data from SAP ERP and BW systems, to introduce regular data archiving processes, and to clean up BW data related to the IS-U module — particularly master data.

During the design phase, the project strategy was revised: instead of deleting irrelevant data from foreign accounting areas, a new, empty data warehouse was proposed, into which only relevant customer data was migrated.

The project also included an upgrade of the SAP BW data warehouse, which improved system stability and performance.

As a result, the volume of data in the database was significantly reduced — approximately 9.5 TB of data was archived. This reduction lowered demands on the hardware infrastructure and accelerated system response times. As part of the archiving process, regular procedures were implemented, and open items were corrected and closed, further supporting long-term sustainability.

By creating a clean and efficient SAP environment, the project helped prepare ČEZ Distribuce for future innovations, including a potential transition from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA.
