Upgrade of SAP data warehouse and intranet systems for Pražská energetika

In our project for Pražská energetika, a.s., we faced a complex challenge: designing a new optimal hardware infrastructure, upgrading SAP BW and NWP to version 7.5, and migrating SAP BW to the SAP HANA database.

The end of support for the current versions of SAP BW and SAP NetWeaver Portal, along with the associated risks and the need to accelerate system response times, led Pražská energetika (PRE) to seek new solutions offering better compatibility with modern operating systems and more efficient data handling. Our company was selected as the solution provider.

The project also involved migrating SAP BW from the Oracle 12 database to the SAP HANA database — PRE’s first deployment of SAP HANA in a user-facing system.

After agreeing on the overall solution strategy, we worked with the customer to define the hardware parameters for SAP BW on HANA, enabling a tender for the hardware supplier. We then proceeded with upgrades to the latest versions of SAP BW and SAP NetWeaver Portal (still without HANA), followed by the final migration of SAP BW to the HANA database.

The result is a modernized and more efficient reporting environment, delivering up to 20× faster system response times for users, up to 5× faster data loads, new data modeling capabilities, and simplified data flows for Pražská energetika.
