GECO: Implementing the POSIGNEO POS Platform for Central Europe’s Largest Tobacco Retail Network

GECO a.s., the operator of the largest tobacco retail network in the Czech Republic, decided to modernize its point-of-sale infrastructure by transitioning to the POSIGNEO platform developed by MIBCON and its sister company, Designeo Creative. The result is a powerful, fully integrated retail solution connected to SAP ERP and SAP BW, currently supporting more than 600 stores across three countries while providing a foundation for the continuous evolution of business processes.

Modernizing the POS Platform for a Large Retail Network

GECO operates hundreds of tobacco stores and retail outlets across the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Germany. As demands for performance, flexibility, and integration with enterprise systems continued to grow, the legacy POS solution could no longer meet the requirements of modern retail operations. The company therefore sought a long-term technology partner capable not only of delivering a seamless migration to a new platform, but also of supporting its ongoing development in line with rapidly changing market needs.

POSIGNEO Connects Retail Operations and SAP in Real Time

In cooperation with our team, GECO implemented the POSIGNEO Customer Checkout solution, built on a modern technology stack including PostgreSQL, Vue.js, and .NET Core. The platform is fully integrated with SAP ERP, SAP BW, and other enterprise systems through standard integration interfaces.

The project included the deployment of a promotion engine, loyalty management capabilities, support for country-specific fiscal requirements, customer-facing displays, inventory management functionality, Guided Selling, and integrations with third-party services such as TIPSPORT, EGIT, and Bitcoin payment processing. The rollout was carried out gradually across individual countries without disrupting day-to-day store operations.

Stable Operations and a Platform for Future Growth

Thanks to its offline-first architecture, sales operations remain fully functional even during connectivity outages, while transaction data is transferred to SAP ERP and SAP BW in near real time. The new solution has delivered greater operational stability, faster access to business-critical data, and the flexibility to continuously enhance functionality without complex migration projects or lengthy release cycles.

The platform continues to evolve through ongoing development initiatives, including a claims management module, advanced promotional capabilities, anti-fraud measures, and integration with e-commerce channels.
