Managing capital investment projects and extensive maintenance across plants in several countries without real-time data is every financial and project manager’s nightmare. Our client, a global leader in renewable packaging materials, set out to transform this process. The solution? Smart4Projects, a SAP Fiori-based application we built to replace fragmented legacy systems and integrate planning seamlessly with the core SAP system.
This project confirms that Mibcon’s development and consulting expertise stands strong even in the most demanding international environments, delivering complex custom solutions under intense time pressure.
The client’s legacy project management system hit both technical and operational limits. Early-stage project planning relied on MS Project and a legacy tool called Protox, with data transferred into the main SAP database via overnight batch jobs. As a result, pre-execution costs could not be reported in real time. On top of that, each plant managed its own reporting, resulting in a confusing maze of over 40 different reports.
To add to the complexity, the project had an unyielding deadline. The client decided not to renew licenses for their existing tools—making the April 2025 go-live non-negotiable, with no turning back.
In a competitive international tender, Mibcon’s deep SAP know-how and compelling feasibility study secured the win, even against strong local incumbents.
As a bespoke customer solution, we designed and developed Smart4Projects, establishing a single source of truth for managing capital investments across plants in Finland, Sweden, and Belgium, with planned expansion to Poland.
Smart4Projects covers the entire lifecycle of an investment or maintenance project—from initial ideation and approval workflows to cost planning, budgeting, forecasting, execution, and final asset capitalization in accounting.
Key technical and process highlights:
By adopting this SAP Fiori application, the client gained a modern, user-friendly, and easily scalable environment where employees work intuitively without switching between multiple tools.
Thanks to a smooth delivery under strict time constraints, the customer successfully phased out legacy software, optimized licensing expenses, and gained complete control over capital investment projects across European plants.
This milestone development project once again demonstrates that:
